Use of XMP metadata in photo collections? Back and forth at Library on embedding metadata.
Chris: embedding metadata in JPEG files, unused addresses in the access header. Avoiding adobe projects. in the field less than one full ftp, can't afford Photoshop/Acrobat, working on the cheap. Software we're using can see access header but you need a tool that can show you that metadata. If we're going to deliver photos with metadata, we wouldn't expect anybody to be able to see that metadata, we'd pull it out into a spreadsheet. Zip file with photos and a spreadsheet. Looking for ways to avoid proprietary tools and metadata and we sort of look at XMP as proprietary. Problems with XMP in ISO process, doesn't make it affordable.
Caroline: can't see advantage for PDF/3 in NARA use case #2.
Caroline available through April 5.
general meeting of the Standards committee on January 28. The overall Standards group reviewed the PDF work and gave the subgroup its enthusiastic blessing to move forward.
Sheila is also planning on attending a DPC daylong symposium on March 13 in Leeds on PDF/A-3. She will report back on its activities.
There was a short discussion on some links that Sheila shared regarding work that the Germans are doing work on "E-invoicing." This would be useful to examine as a use case for PDF/A-3.
All agreed to move forward on the guidance document. Volunteers agreed to tackle different sections of the "questions to ask and answer" section, as well as work to flesh out the use cases.
A Google doc has been set up to provide an environment for shared work. All group members should be able to edit the document, but if you have trouble drop a note to Butch. March 22 has been set as the deadline for the first draft of each person's section.
A Doodle poll has been established to pick a date the week of March 25-29 for the next meeting.
