Innovation Awards Team Meeting Minutes - 01/17/2012, 4pm

In attendance: Rachel Frick, Jason Kucsma, Jefferson Bailey [Jennifer Ricker could not attend]

This call was a group review of the shared Google Doc outlining the details of the awards specifically and the details of the program in general.

Call notes

Comments on doc:

  • Credit does not need to be assigned just to the Innovation WG; should be framed as a program of the full NDSA.
  • Should clarify that “committee reserves the right to” (or something to that effect) NOT award all four award categories; if some categories are under-nominated or have no good nominees, then an award won’t be given. We will award 4 maximum, but perhaps only 2 or 3 total.
  • In “eligibility” section, take out the repetitious first sentence. Leave it concise and specific.
  • In “nomination requirements” make sure to guide people in the length of their required description of project. If left vague, some maybe write nothing and some may write a treatise.
  • Suggestions for above is to say “brief, one paragraph” for description and justification.
  • It is suggested that we also require nominator information; can say that we’ll leave confidential, but this is information we should be collecting internally: name & email and, if desired, affiliation and description
  • As far as requirements of the winners (now that travel to the partners meeting is approved), we should have them do a brief presentation on their project (possibly even all together as part of a panel) and lead a “scripted and controlled” discussion on innovation
  • For the evalution details, these can be summarized in a paragraph instead of in bullet points. Make it a list and short paragraph (and this does not need to be public information).
  • Add Digital Koans to the list of for communications stuff
  • Do we want honorable mentions?
  • Do we want a press release?
  • Make sure that we encourage exposure through NDSA member resources
  • Do we want an online submission form (like a Google Doc like Outreach has for their stories?)
  • Jason will be at ALA next week and wants a one-sheet flyer/handout about the awards.
  • We now have access to the NDSA email account and Jefferson will monitor it once submission start coming in and will determine the best way to present nominations for the group to review
