NDSA Innovation Working Group Planning Call: December 16th, 3:00pm, 2011

In attendance

  • Jane Mandelbaum, Library of Congress
  • Barbara Taranto, New York Public Library
  • Gary Wright, Corporation of the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Micah Altman, Harvard University
  • Trevor Owens, Library of Congress
  • Jefferson Bailey, Library of Congress

Overview

The call updated the group on the status of our interview series on the NDIIPP digital preservation blog (The Signal), noting forthcoming interviews and soliciting more ideas for potential interview candidates. We also reviewed our committed "mentors" to participate in Google's "Summer of Code" project and discussed more ideas for partnerships. As well, we updated team-members on Innovation Recognition Awards team happenings and discussed further feedback on award ideas. Lastly, we discussed the Innovation WG's presence at the CNI conference.

Action Items

Interviews:

  • Barbara has completed her interview with Beverly Emmons and will send the text (and picture of Beverly) to LC after the holidays
  • Jefferson will conduct scheduled interview with Michael Olson at Stanford
  • Jefferson will send Gary interview notes, details, and sample questions for his future interview with Tom Creighton from Family Search

Summer of Code:

  • CHNM has agreed to be a mentor and LC will coordinate with them on the details
  • Micah Altman will continue to pin down the details on Harvard's participation and coordinate with UNC & the Data-PASS SafeArchive folks
  • Trevor/LC will talk to Duraspace about potentially participating or coordinating on proposals to ensure no overlap if they have their own non-NDSA project in place

Awards:

  • Jefferson will send the current list of potential awards to the listserv for final commentary before the awards team's call on 12/21
  • January call Doodle poll will go out after the holidays and the next call will be the week of January 16th or 23rd.
