Shane discussed his exploration of data-entry/database tools for our survey. So far we've been using the Google Docs spreadsheet but there are not-inconsiderable limitations on it. Shane said that he has yet to find an off-the-shelf solution for our needs with this survey. This will still have to be worked out.

We also discussed the NDIIPP Partner's Meeting July 19-21: [[NDSA:http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/register/]] It looks like many of our group members are planning to go. Andrea and I discussed having a happy hour on Wednesday the 20th for our group. We'll likely decide during the conference where we're going to go but all are welcome. We'll be working on use cases for our standards survey, which will help us scope the work, on Wednesday afternoon. We'll discuss that in more depth in our July Standards meeting.

June 6, 2011 NDSA Standards Working Group Meeting Notes

Jimi Jones, note taker

Matt started off our discussion by unpacking his proposal "to develop an approach for implementing the OAIS Reference Model and the derived Trustworthy Repository Auditing & Certification metrics (TRAC) in a distributed digital preservation (DDP) environment." We then talked about the current state of our wiki. It is difficult to navigate and requires users to drill down through many clicks to get to important content. To that end Jimi plans to redesign the Standards wiki space to make it more navigable.

Andrea talked about her interest in drafting a metadata schema pertaining to containers like zip, tar and so on. She asked if people in this group would like to be a part of the review process for such a schema, to which several members showed interest.

Jimi repeatedly mentioned the need to increase traffic on the Standards email list so as to keep momentum between meetings. The above-mentioned work can help to keep interest up and open up the group to other work besides the standards survey.

Shane discussed his exploration of data-entry/database tools for our survey. So far we've been using the Google Docs spreadsheet but there are not-inconsiderable limitations on it. Shane said that he has yet to find an off-the-shelf solution for our needs with this survey. This will still have to be worked out.
