Meeting Notes
-hot activity list on the wiki +regional meetings hosted by schola +june 14 regional meeting will be in NY +good opportunity for NDSA regionals to meet and also introduce non members to NDSA +get NDSA members to show off work +effort to prepare the NAtional agenda (doc for 2013 meeting)
-ndsr and agenda are diatinct operations +NDSA agenda was explained (origin and purpose)
importance to consider important outreach and comunication plans to include (like agressively arguing importance for digital stewardship)
-news beureau was topic of last call +dig humanities tool that harvests dig hum information. our goal is to create a tool like that but for a member focused stream
-need a press template +more thought needed +if press release content sent by member we can take that and put it in ndsa labled template and redistribute to our network under NDSA +Carol had suggested that this stream may be more of a trickle cuz not much is labled as official press release. +bring up idea of creative common release of press realease. going to ask about it +degree of friction we might encounter in building it into workflow +try out with a partner or two who might be the guinea pigs +we would boiler plate a bit on NDSA and put wholesale the original press release. +rerelease through NDSA will usually benefit +possiblity is putting an NDSA header on it and highlight as a rebroadcast
-contacts +spreadsheet on possible contact list brainstormed over here +list of ppl for coordinated news beureau +asked the members to list people or put us in contact with the news people of the organization. +notion of pushing press to New york bits blog. It might not be effective because they might not care for national stewardship. If our goal is to establish NDSA brand as digital stewardship. Gut feeling: ping ppl in a non-stupid way gets people to assosciate what they see and hear with those ideas. +if no one knows you exist then no one can help +who is the audience your trying to reach? the comical, major news or to the broader usa community of actual preservers. +make statements easily tweetable (social media tease) +within practicioner the NDSA brand is pretty established (may want to examine)
-In ideal world ppl in more organizations would be more aware of what NDSA is doing.
-get regular someboies to do this regular pinging
-What would be the best way for you to get the information that the NDSA is working on? +we've used different tools to filter out info that comes at us. We can be smarter +look for website that has what a person would need to know (or the wiki) +we could build up web pages a bit +the signal has been a great resource for new members +to follow through twitter you have to be commited to it so its mroe of a second step. +challenge is we're dealing with this on multiple levels
-LinkedIn NDSA group +Kim Schroeder talked on value of creating NDSA linkedIn group +announcement to send to NDSA-ALL list inviting people +ppl already push out expertise on LinkedIn (mostly self promotion) +this group will be more of a WG than self promotion +more interest than realized
-Kim's region has decided to start meeting for preservation week. NDSA can tweet it out +hasn't limited region yet so first meeting will see interest
-not a critical mass of pingness yet
-we've cleared that this is something we should do so now we are addressing
