Meeting Notes

•Approval Aug. 18 meeting minutes: http://www.loc.gov/extranet/wiki/osi/ndiip/ndsa/index.php?title=Meeting_Minutes_08-18-11

--No changes were recommended. Aug. 18 minutes were used to update the Content Working Group and the Outreach Working Group on OWG Storytellers activities.

Action Item 1: Brief form to use to put out a call for stories to NDSA-all

Amanda French kindly put this form together for discussion:

Have you lost important data through 1) hardware failure, 2) hardware or format obsolescence, 3) migration to a new format, or other means? Did you once almost lose important data, but then manage to recover or preserve it? Tell your story here, and we'll tell the world, so that we can all learn more about how best to ensure that data is available for many years to come. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dE54RFprc0duVHg2aXRoUkNNZ0xTeVE6MQ.

Discussion: This form will gather ideas. OWG Storytellers will review submissions and develop production process based on availability of: --production help from LOC or, --guidelines for personal 3-5 minute self-made videos

Through the Center for History and New Media Amanda has offered to set up an OAI-PMH Omeka repository/web site for "Stories" to live on. Content will be easily ported for distribution to other sites.

Target date for distribution of the call to NDSA-all is second week in October. Deadline for submissions is the end of October.

Incentives for people to contribute stories was tabled. It was agreed that people should be encouraged to submit P&A news stories (not their own)?

Actions: •Issue the call --Amanda will revise form to make it very easy to submit ideas for stories (one paragraph, 3-4 sentences) rather than a piece of media, send the draft call out to the OWG for comment, and subsequently send to NDSA-all. •What will the OWG Stories web site be called? Please weigh in. •Set up repository and web site (late October) •Continue investigating production options/methods

Action Item 2: Template for a 3-5 minute video structure

This discussion has been tabled until we know more about what kinds of stories will be submitted and how we will produce them. We do not want to prematurely create a structure that would be a barrier to participation.
