Abbie Grotke from LC presented an overview of web archiving: why web and social media is being archived, who is doing what, what challenges do we face: social and ethical, legal, and technical. Her slides are here:
Kris Carpenter presented on the Social Media preservation - 1) Bradley from UVA: How are institutions handling intellectual rights for social media accounts created under false names? False accounts seem to be abandoned often and are like "orphan tweets."
Abbie: An institution will have to make a risk assessment on this type of content, and may consider relying on a takedown policy should there be objections from the creator.
2) Edward McCain confirmed that the slides from these presentations will be made available to the group.
3) Charlotte from Cal Tech asked about the availability of institutional policies to use as models.
Abbie: Feedback from the NDSA survey should be helpful, and hopefully institutions will share what they've developed. There are a range of policies to consider, including selection policies, collection development policies, social media policies, and legal policies.
Lastly, Content Working Group members were asked to suggest speakers for future meetings.
