A starting point for this project is this basic timeline of community-based self-assessment and audit events and milestones:
1996  Preserving Digital Information report specifies the need for transparency and demonstrating conformance to good practice through audit and certification.
2002  Final version of OAIS Reference Model from CCSDS identifies certification as a standard that will be needed as one of the OAIS standards 
2003  RLG/NARA Task Force convened with Robin Dale and Bruce Ambacher as co-chairs
2006  Test audits completed as part of a project in the US that was led by Robin Dale, hosted by CRL, and funded by Andrew W Mellon and by the DCC
2006  First version of DRAMBORA released for review and use (DCC and DPE)
2006  First version of nestor's Catalogue of Criteria for Trusted Digital Repositories released
2007  Public version of Trustworthy Repository Audit and Certification (TRAC):  Checklist released by TRAC task force in January
2007  Ten Principles released in January resulting from a meeting Robin Dale convened of representatives from TRAC, nestor, and DRAMBBORA , 2007 (Platter – plans to address)
2007  Birds-of-a-feather group convened in January by David Giaretta to review TRAC and work toeards ISO standard for audit and certification
2008  First version of Data Seal of Approval released for public comment
2012  ISO 16363 based on TRAC requirements approved
2013  Revision of Data Seal of Approval released for review
