The mission of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance is to establish, maintain, and promote [/publicize/sustain] the capacity to preserve our nation's digital resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
Steve Griffin, NSF, asked for clarification on the word "promote" since it has at least two different meanings, so there is a question on the table whether "publicize" or "sustain" are better substitutes. He later questioned whether "capacity" should be replaced by "capability".
 
There was a unanimous decision to remove the word "citizens" in order to realize potential benefits that extend beyond the United States.<br/><br/>

Notes on discussions about Mission Statement from Organizing Committee

Steve Griffin, NSF, asked for clarification on the word "promote" since it has at least two different meanings, so there is a question on the table whether "publicize" or "sustain" are better substitutes. He later questioned whether "capacity" should be replaced by "capability".

There was a unanimous decision to remove the word "citizens" in order to realize potential benefits that extend beyond the United States.
