Notes

Welcome all new members!

During this meeting, the Working Group:

Discussed challenges of working with content creators (aiming to come up with the top 5-10):

  • how to communicate standards to creators
  • drawing lines around what an organization is willing to accept from creators
  • initiating contact with creators
  • providing guidance to content creators on file naming, metadata
  • communicating long-term value of content to creators (esp. for news, performance art)
  • intersections with creators of citizen-generated content (people making videos/taking pictures of events in Ferguson, Missouri, for example)
  • more?

Discussed ways we can better understand and provide support for working with creators:

  • Plan presentations on models for communicating with creators
  • Conduct more Content Matters interviews with creators and other stakeholders around valuable at-risk content
  • Continue to develop case studies to identify stakeholders and challenges to specific kinds of content

Also discussed the possibility of hosting a presentation with the Standards WG on the Council of State Archivists PERTTS portal (Program For Electronic Records Training, Tools, and Standards; http://rc.statearchivists.org/PERTTS/Default.aspx )

Lastly, the NDSA Web Archiving Survey report will be released soon! Feedback from the CWG is requested by COB, Monday, September 8.
