Reviewing the Geospatial Data Archiving Quick Reference document. Diane Papineau described the origins of the document. It came out of her experience with the GeoMAPP project and she developed it as a quick reference to hand out at a couple of GIS conferences in 2013.
[http://www.sis.utk.edu/users/bradley-wade-bishop Wade Bishop], an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Sciences at U. of Tennessee, Knoxville, discussed his research on the Geoweb. A copy of his article, "Digital Curation and the GeoWeb: An Emerging Role for Geographic Information Librarians" from the Journal of Map & Geography Libraries can be found [[NDSA:Media:GeoWeb_2013.pdf | here]].

She imagined the audience for the document as GIS people; data creators, anyone who has a hand on the data who "pushes the delete button." After further discussion the group felt that the document audience could be broadened to include anyone engaged in the stewardship of geospatial data, including archives and libraries.
Mr. Bishop has invited NDSA-GEO members to speak at one of his future classes. The remaining available class dates are April 4th and 11th are the dates left in my class for guest lectures. He notes that the 11th class is actually addressing archives and data centers, so that may be an opportune date.

After some document discussion, the group moved on to brainstorming possible speakers for future calls. The ideas have been added to the [[NDSA:Geospatial#Speakers_Series| Speakers Series list]].

Wade Bishop, an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Sciences at U. of Tennessee, Knoxville, discussed his research on the Geoweb. A copy of his article, "Digital Curation and the GeoWeb: An Emerging Role for Geographic Information Librarians" from the Journal of Map & Geography Libraries can be found here.

Mr. Bishop has invited NDSA-GEO members to speak at one of his future classes. The remaining available class dates are April 4th and 11th are the dates left in my class for guest lectures. He notes that the 11th class is actually addressing archives and data centers, so that may be an opportune date.
