Agenda 1: Discussion of plans for the July 2011 NDIIPP Partner Meeting
Following roll call, Butch opened the call with a dicussion of the draft proposal for an Outreach Working Group session at the July 2011 NDIIPP Partner Meeting. Under the proposal, the group would gather potential resources to provide outreach support to library and information school students on digital preservation issues. At the summer meeting, Working Group session would allow members and interested individuals to review the materials and finalize the materials. A driving thought behind this activity is to create “Digital Preservation Outreach in a Box,” a toolsuite of materials members could use and the LIS community could use to perform outreach activities.
During the webex session, Butch provided participants with a description of NDIIPP’s Personal Digital Archiving resources, including www.digitalpreservation.gov/you, www.digitalpreservation.gov/videos, and the handouts developed as compliments to the PAD resources.
Discussion Q/A
While most of the participants agreed leveraging and compiling digital preservation materials already created for the LIS community or non-professional audience is a useful idea, some questioned the main audience for this activity and how materials can be scaled for the audience. Blaine Dessey suggested that this activity could be a primer, and Digital Preservation Outreach in a Box could be constructed for audiences at all levels. The Outreach group may want to start developing something at the generic level and the group voted to take on this task and form an Action Team. Lisa Gregory volunteered to lead the efforts, and Deever Powell and Blaine Dessey volunteered to be members of the team.
