'''Notes on discussions about Mission Statement from Organizing Committee'''
The mission of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance is to establish, maintain, and advance the capacity to preserve our nation's digital resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

Mission Statement Discussion about this draft statement (see Appendix B) indicated that "citizen" was too restrictive for the group. It was pointed out that "promote" can mean either "expand" or "publicize" and it was not clear which was meant. Suggest substitute "expand and publicize" unless objections. --[[NDSA:User:Micah altman|Micah altman]] 19:39, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Received another suggestion to replace "promote" with "advance."

Is there a preference between "advance" v. "expand and publicize?"

<br>Hasn't the capacity to preserve our nation's digital resources already been established by the likes of Hathi, Chronopolis, etc.? Aren't we sort of "repurposing" or "co-locating" or something like that? My terminology isn't right, but I think that to say "establish" negates the hard work that has come before us or that happens around us. --Amy Rudersdorf
