NDSA Meeting May 6, 2015

iPRES conference (Nov. 2-6, Chapel Hill, NC) panel proposals due May 15

Ideas for proposals:

  • Ed McCain suggested a panel on born-digital news preservation
  • also a suggestion for a panel on work with content creators
  • Gail would like to help but not attending iPRES
  • email will be sent to CWG listserv to solicit additional ideas and participants

NDSA transition

  • RFP issued May 1-June 30, 2015 for a planned transition to a new host by September 30, 2015.
  • working groups will continue through transition
  • members encouraged to share comments, concerns, suggestions for hosts, and questions
  • A question was asked about any proposals received. As of May 6, only inquiries have been made.

Member news

  • LC released new access interface to web archive collections
  • Ed McCain shared information about a research project to assess the value/utility of born-digital news. Campus focus groups (at the University of Missouri) will followed by a survey. Ed will share updates at a later meeting.

Member presentation: Imogen Smith, Dance Heritage Coalition

  • Recently received a Knight Foundation Prototype Fund Grant
  • goal to provide links between born-digital performance media and related writings
  • beginning with in-person outreach to producers and users of the resources
  • locating and ingesting content; some content is feely available online and some are not
  • diverse array of content and formats
  • 6 months to see what can be produced
  • looking for feedback!
